I give daily as I know each of you give of yourselves; hour after hour, day after day, week after week, and before long, year after year. There are no paid vacations, leave of absence, sick days, or holidays off…. Mom, you’re just as human as all of them that ask of you. Don’t miss out on the experience of raising your child focused on what things should be. I would often worry about the things that really didn’t mean much such as; the water spots on the vanity in the bathroom, the mess that Justin would make trying to feed himself, the rug in the floor not positioned just right, clothes stacked to the ceiling, shoes in the floor, and dust on the furniture. Wow! Need I say more?

Yes, I’m just trying to be a mom!

Family, spouses, and friends ask of you and don’t see the tears in your eyes. They simply don’t understand going to the school, doctors office, speech therapist, occupational therapist, all while trying to defend your child. They don’t see you praying just to get to the next hour, taking trip after trip, caring bags after bags, because you couldn’t gather all the things at once as well as your child. Many nights spent sleeping in a chair holding your sick child. Walking the floor asking for peace, patience, and guidance. They simply don’t see!

I’m just trying to be a mom!

Yes, we’ve had a different outlook on motherhood. Saturday morning soccer games, football games, karate lessons, play dates, sleepovers, large birthday parties, and your child having as many friends as you did in college. Well, for me, not so. Perhaps the doctor gave you a bad report about your health, would all these things be of importance? I think not! Would you say ”I have to pick the kids up from school,” or “I have to take my child/children to the doctor,” and “I have to take my child/children to the therapist.” I’ve changed my ”I have to” and now I am blessed to say that “I get to.” Lets take one day at a time, one obstacle at a time and enjoy where you are at this present moment; because your child is only ages 2, 3, and 4 once.

About The Author

God fearing, loving mother to an awesome young man. Enjoying what I do! Although I'm not the greatest teacher, however raising a child with special needs has given me more degrees than any college university you could think of.

Would love to hear from!
